Summer Vibes (Part 2)🍦🍨🐮🥛 🏊‍♀️#Munich

Part 1: Summer Vibes (2021)

Summer is the season for holunderblüten, and people even make syrups out of it. I really wanted to try out this recipe I saw for 'flower cakes', but was unfortunately informed that the flower blossoms were available mainly in June, and now in end July they are gone/sold out. Perhaps some day I can visit Bavaria again and try this seasonal dish, the same way I had enjoyed spargel! But of course for now we can still enjoy other seasonal fruit like berries, pear and honey melon : )

I'm also going to miss the 'farmtotable' experience because there are many farms so near to Munich city centre. I managed to get "frische milch" in a jar directly from the farm and the special machine dispenses 1L of milk for 1euro 24hours a day! All other dairy products in their small shop you can also purchase based on an honesty box system so you leave the money in the little cash box available (I got some really yummy banana baileys icecream). These are experiences part of the every day life of the locals who live in the area, so maybe it seemed silly that I was so happy with this bottle of cold milk that I was hugging it in my bag on the train ride home.

But anyhow, to beat the extreme heat these days (which seems to be going on for longer than last year), ice cream, iced lattes or cold beers are a must >< For more icecream recommendations, you can see last year's post: "32degrees Icecream Weather ><" This year's discovery was Eiskonditorei Sarcletti and everyday they have >30 flavours it's crazy! Finally, I settled for Baci (I really like that chocolate with random quotes :P) and Quark-Orange. They also have many different types of cones! This is a shop you could definitely keep returning to.

Some local friends shared that these temperatures of 35-40 degrees (wärmebelastung = heat stress) were not common for them growing up, and that it is in recent years they are truly feeling the impact of climate change which is kind of scary and sad. We have even started buying more fans because ventilation by simply opening the windows are not sufficient, and I'm even getting attacked by mosquitoes which I did not expect to face away from my tropical home. Other ways to cool down is of course going swimming, and finally got a chance to do so at Müller’sches Volksbad which has such beautiful architecture dating back to 1901! :D I also wanted to visit Naturbad Maria Einsiedel which is located in a park setting! But unfortunately they have noticed some increased germ load and so it's temporarily closed. You can find the list and details of all the pools and baths at the official website.

I'm hoping temperatures cool down a little and I get to experience the golden shades of autumn again before it's time to head home. This might be the last post for a little while as I finish up the last leg of my studies. Till then, stay safe and stay cool! :P
