After 1.5 years I finally got to eat my favourite ngoh hiang again >< (especially those pieces of chestnut cake!) Although it will take some time to re-acclimatize my bread-schnitzel-beer palate back to Singapore, it has been so wonderful to eat some of my favourite foods that I kept telling all my friends about in Germany.
Also, it seems that many more food stalls have opened up over the past year, offering delivery options which started of due to COVID but is now convenient for the Singaporean lifestyle. Apparently there are also many ex-restaurant chefs now working in smaller cafes or hawker centres allowing delicious dishes to be more affordable or at least accessible to the masses :) And so, Chef Wei HK Cheong Fun which opened up while I was away was something I could finally try and not just look at through my computer screen >< and it was really really yummy and well stuffed with either prawn or mushroom.
Of course, I also needed my dose of bubble tea! and there are so many outlets of Chicha San Chen around Singapore now! 🧋🧋🧋
Overall with regard to food though it seems that there many more "plant-based" options, which is following the worldwide trend towards more sustainable eating habits, and I was surprised as well to see so many cafes and beverage stalls having "oat milk" as an option....and in fact promoting it in a very large way. Although personally I prefer soy milk when it comes to non-dairy alternatives, I guess it's nice to see Singaporeans up for trying new things.
Also, in light of Oktoberfest, even NTUC is promoting items to recreate the experience at home, which is helping me miss Munich less....they have even brought in Paulaner's Helles! :D So, i'm looking forward to eating more of my 'old' favourite foods, trying some that are the latest trends, and of course sharing my experience in Germany with local friends :) till the next post!
