I was lucky to have some people from back home visit me in Munich recently. I got to take them around to some places I discovered in the past year and share with them some fun facts I learnt, and also feel like a tourist myself after all these months. It was also tricky planning what to do on a Sunday given that many places are closed, but we managed! And also it's a good day to benefit from the 1euro deals at certain museums :)
DAY 1
We visited Tambosi for breakfast since it is historically one of the oldest cafes in Munich, and so we could feel like Mozart dining and overlooking Odeonsplatz :P I tried their pistachio cake which the lady told me was made freshly.

We then took a walk down Ludwigstraße and visited St. Ludwig München (catholic church) to admire the altar fresco which is the 2nd largest in the world :)

The Alte Pinakothek is a short walk from here and while one could actually spend an entire day here, we allocated about 1 hour so that we could visit other places as well. From here one could catch the U-bahn at Theresienstraße and then the tram to get to Nymphenburg Palace. We visited Alleecafé7 for tea, which is walking distance from the palace. They have a pop-up for this Christmas season serving waffles and glühwein : ) The waffles are really delicious <3, especially in the cold, served with cinnamon, caramel and apple sauce amongst other toppings (like chocolate)- this cafe was a new discovery for me! :D
Finally, we took the tram 16 from near the cafe towards the city, which stopped by The Isator so that we could view one of the remaining gates that still stand in Munich city and take some photos. From here, the Hofbräuhaus is just a short walk and we headed there for dinner, to enjoy some beer and a hearty meal= potato dumplings, GIANT pretzels and mini sausages amidst the warm conversations and laughter.

DAY 2
We met around lunch time and had a quick 'snack'. A schmalznudel (bavarian donut) from Cafe Frischhut near Viktualienmarkt and a coffee from Bar Centrale, an Italian cafe/bar. The schmalznudel was very reminiscent of a snack we have back home called youtiao, but it tasted good freshly fried in the cold winter. Bar Centrale was also our chance to have a little taste of Italy, and it was really busy when we we arrived, with the barista preparing shots of espresso and little cups of tiramisu desserts, but he was really cheery and friendly and made us warm cups of latte macchiatos to go. We then headed for lunch at Brot & Kloß, so that they could try Bavarian dumplings= Knödel.

We then visited the Deutsches Museum, which is a science museum, broken down into various themes. The 'outlet' in Munich has 6 floors! So be warned that you probably could not finish seeing it in a day >< They had a very interesting VR zone, so you could put on this headset and try visiting the moon for 15min for example. In this moon challenge, I got to play golf on the moon :P The view of the Isar river as the sun set is also really beautiful given that the museum is located just along the river.

We then decided to visit Primark to do a little bit of shopping, and it was fun travelling to the other end of the U5 line which one normally wouldn't do as a tourist, usually staying around the Marienplatz area. Besides Primark, this shopping complex also houses a rather big Edeka and some bookshops. At the Edeka, we managed to find Eierlikör (egg+ brandy) chocolate, which made a good souvenir. At the bookshop, I also found really beautiful stickers by Turnowsky.
Finally, we decided to have Korean food for dinner, so we headed to Arisu which serves very delicious dishes like fried chicken, kimchi soup, bibimbap, pancakes etc. The staff are friendly and will joke with you as well as advise you what to order if you are in doubt. But that kimchi soup with a kick definitely helped me miss home less : )
