I've been wanting to make a trip to Regensburg, and finally with the 9euro tix, this was the perfect opportunity. It was the last place on my list of places to visit in Germany, aside from the upcoming Pokemon Go event in Berlin :D
It is also quite nice that Landshut is a good stopover point to break the journey, so I got to walk about the town a little and see some of the historical buildings in the area. I have been told that there is usually this Medieval festival (Landshut wedding) held every 4 years there, but unfortunately I will miss it as it will only be held next year :'( Nevertheless, I had the chance to visit the church there and even saw the "Berliner Brucke", very appropriately preparing me for the next adventure!
The trip to Landshut from Munich is about an hour, and then a further 30min to Regensburg. It's the first time I sat in the "alex " regional train, compared to the other regional trains and the layout inside is very different. There are compartments with 6 seats and sealed with a sliding door (somewhat like in harry potter) and along the aisle, there are further fold-down seats. If you get the compartment seats, it can actually be really comfortable, and each seat even has a charging point for your phone/laptop, a reading light and place for your overhead luggage! But...if you are along the aisle, and given the heat and the crowd these days, it can be quite uncomfortable because whenever one person wants to alight, everyone has to try and fold their legs like at the cinema >< so it was quite an experience.
Regensburg itself was really enjoyable because I was lucky enough to chance upon a antique fair while I was there, and it was HUGE. It took up several streets and people sold really interesting items from cameras, to toys, to kitchenware, to postcards etcetc. I also learnt that you have to learn to bargain, and that many of the sellers are not in a hurry to part with their items;- for example unless you buy certain items in a "set", they may not want to sell them to you. I wish I had more luggage space because there were many kitchen or baking items I would have liked to buy.
I also got to visit the Walhalla, which honors famous Germans in history, like Einstein! and Mozart! and many others, some I recognized after travelling to the various towns and learning about the history of different places for example Albrecht DĆ¼rer. It felt like the perfect 'end' to my adventures, especially when I could recognize some of these people and it felt like I really learnt something after this 1 year in Munich/Germany. Also the view from the top of the hill was really scenic.
Finally of course I visited a nice bakery cafe called Anna Liebt Brot Und Kaffe. You could probably change the name Anna to Renu >< Everything on the menu looked so good, but the 28degree heat called for the iced coffee, and I took away their cinnamon bun for breakfast the next day :)
