New favourite song on loop (and a reason to learn more German :P ): Weit Weg by Wincent Weiss ♫♪♪
The crazy heat has given way to rain and thunderstorms. Germany lost in the Euros and it felt as if the skies were weeping along with everyone >< At the same time, the storms are really serious in certain regions, and I hope people are safe! One of our lecturers is very inspiring and volunteers for these disaster relief efforts.
Somehow this rainy weather called for something hearty and wholesome, so I decided to have something authentically Bavarian like Schweinebraten which is pork in dark beer sauce, with potato dumplings and cabbage salad :) This was my first proper Bavarian meal that I've eaten in Munich! The accompanying sauce was so rich and delicious, and overall I was very happy and satisfied. And for dessert I finally got to try the famed Kaiserschmarren which is apparently an Austrian classic, and a favourite of Emperor Franz Joseph! I found it quite amusing to look at cause it really looks like a pile of chopped up thick pancakes, but it tasted nice with the apple compote. It is sometimes served with icecream as well. I usually don't have very big meals so the good thing about takeaway (for me) is that I can portion out these meals and enjoy them over time without wastage : )
Anyway, a 'fun fact' from lectures is that the salt used in food in Bavaria is heavily iodized because the soil used to grow food lacks in it. So this is to help prevent people getting thyroid issues due to iodine deficiency, which in the past even caused females to modify their traditional Bavarian dresses to have long neck collars to hide these nodules.
