Dachau~

Dachau is a very historical town that I visited. I suppose the main thing that you might associate with this place is the concentration camp memorial site, and while it was too confronting for me to visit the site itself, there are many bits of information around the city itself to educate you about the past. Since the train station itself was the arrival station for many prisoners in the past, the "path of remembrance" begins there and there are information boards that start there with a path leading all the way to the campsite.

On a lighter note, there are many other historical buildings worth seeing in the town as well : ) and are very easily accessible by bus from the main station (there are clear signs!), as well as some walking. You can get a free guide map from the city centre. There was the Rathaus (town hall) which used to be a former gingerbread factory. I also visited the Schloss (Palace) which was constructed in the 16th century! It has a large banquet hall which people can still eat at today. It sits on a hill, so the view overlooks the entire city which is pretty amazing, and there is a beautiful garden attached at the back. (You can take a virtual 360 tour here)

I also walked pass the St Jakob church which is a Gothic church that has origins dating back to 1390!!! >< And it has a really fascinating sundial (which I don't know how to read >< haha but it looks cool!) In general, the town has very nice pastel coloured buildings which remind me of artwork/postcards, and there are specialty shops selling wine or handiwork.
