Alcoholic Scientist (kidding ><) #Munich

Updated: Jan 16, 2022

I had never really been a fan of beers in the past because of the strong taste and smell, but had really hoped to try some when I came to Munich so I could learn to appreciate something that was close to the hearts of the locals. I was thus really happy to try the "radler" which is a mixture of beer and lemonade so it's relatively lighter/sweeter, but you can still taste abit of the bitterness of the beer which is a good balance. Also the alcohol content is much less and it's more of a refreshing beverage. This drink also goes by the name "russ". It's nice to be able to appreciate the effort brewers go through to get the right flavour profile of their beer (like coffee roasters!) and in Germany, you can even do a masters in it! :D

Anyway, some of the rather famous beer companies -other than Augustiner- that I noticed around Munich (and that you can easily get at supermarkets too) are Franziskaner Weissbier and Paulaner Munchen. They are wheat beers, as compared to some beers made from barley. I also finally realised why they need to be stored in amber bottles, which is to protect them from UV light as this mars the taste!....It reminds me of things I store in amber bottles at lab ><

I also discovered a new biergarten at Hirschgarten which is a huge park and the biergarten has both a self-serve section and a section where a waiter will serve you. In the compound of the park there are really cute deer roaming around and you can even feed them! It's a really nice place to chill especially when the weather is good.
